Hospital History
Sherwood South Animal Hospital opened for business in 1975 when Dr. O. C. “Bob” Granzin relocated his practice from downtown Baton Rouge to South Sherwood Forest Boulevard. In 1979 Dr. Alfred G. Stevens joined the practice as a recent graduate from Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. The practice began as a 3400 sq. foot facility with 3 employees and has since been rebuilt and redesigned to the current state of the art 12,000 sq. foot facility with over 25 employees.
This modern facility required much planning and foresight in order to offer the vast array of services the doctors and staff were committed to providing the Baton Rouge and surrounding communities. From a fully equipped dental operatory, an intensive care unit, to luxury boarding suites, Sherwood South Animal Hospital is dedicated to the highest level of patient care. We utilize the most recent advances in diagnostic equipment, procedures, surgery and medical skills available in order to keep our patients healthy in hopes that everything we do helps strengthen the human-animal bond.
In 2003, Dr. Alfred Stevens was joined in practice by Dr. Stephen M. Lee, Jr. and Dr. Lacie B. Lee. Dr's Stephen and Lacie were previously practicing in Atlanta, Georgia and were excited to return to their home state to continue their careers at Sherwood South Animal Hospital.
In February of 2005, Dr. Nicole West joined the Sherwood South team. She is a 2003 graduate of the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. Her special interests include dermatology, internal medicine, and surgery.
With 4 veterinarians and a wonderful staff of dedicated employees, the goal of Sherwood South Animal Hospital is to provide the very best in patient care and to make sure patients, as well as their owners, are treated like family. The love for our work and the great clientele we serve are the main motivations that keep Sherwood South Animal Hospital thriving today.
