Keep Your Pet Safe During The Holidays!

Like small children, pets may require greater supervision during the holidays. Here are a few tips that can help keep your pet safe.

  • Bring pets inside if the weather conditions become severe
  • Alcoholic beverages, chocolates, and fatty foods can be harmful to pets- even toxic! Less than an ounce of milk chocolate per pound of body weight can cause vomiting, depression, lethargy, muscular tremors, diarrhea, and even death.
  • Keep holiday plants including Christmas rose, mistletoe, holly, poinsettias, and philodendron out of reach. All of these plants are toxic to pets!
  • Keep fresh, clean water available at all times.
  • Keep holiday decorations like tinsel, glass ornaments, spray-on-snow, foil or plastic wrappings out of reach.
  • Keep pets on their regular diets to avoid stomach upset from rich foods, pancreatitis from fatty treats, and weight gain from excessive calories.
  • Keep animals properly restrained on a leash or in the yard, particularly when setting off fireworks.

We at Sherwood South Animal Hospital wish you, your family and your pets, a safe and wonderful holiday season!!!
